Abstract

The role of women in development has until lately been indiscernible. This has fundamentally been as a result of disregarding the issues of women and gender within the theory and practice of development. The exclusion of women from the various developmental aspects has made women to be seen as impediments to the process of development. This study sought to examine the influence of age on peri-urban women social- economic development. It found that majority of the women in the peri-urban areas were elderly and not able to engage in vigorous and multiple income generating activities. Thus, old age was found to have affected the women’s social-economic growth. The study recommended that the government should review its policies related to women funds for the purpose of ensuring consistency and equal distribution of funds to all women age groups in the Peri-urban areas.
